Free CV Template for Kenya (2026): Fill-in-the-Blanks Example

Updated 4 November 20266 min readBy the KaziMatch careers team

Below is a free CV template built for the Kenyan job market. Copy each section into a blank Word or Google Docs page, replace everything in [square brackets] with your own details, and delete any section that does not apply to you.

The template follows the CV format Kenyan employers expect: two pages, reverse-chronological, and simple enough for applicant tracking systems to read.

How to use this template

  1. Open a new document. Set the font to Calibri or Arial, size 11.
  2. Copy the sections below in the same order.
  3. Replace each placeholder. Remove the square brackets.
  4. Delete the guidance notes in italics.
  5. Save as a PDF named Firstname-Lastname-CV.pdf.

Tips for filling in each section

Contact details

Use a professional email address. Something like firstname.lastname@ works better than nicknames. Include only your town or county, not your full address. Do not add your ID number, date of birth, marital status or a photo unless the advert asks.

Professional profile

This is the first thing a recruiter reads. Name the role, your years of experience and two or three skills that the advert mentions. Avoid empty phrases like "hardworking team player" unless you back them up.

Work experience

Start bullets with strong verbs: managed, led, reduced, grew, trained, prepared, negotiated. Add a number wherever you honestly can. If you are not sure how, read our step-by-step guide on how to write a CV.

Education

Put the highest qualification first. If you are a recent graduate, move education above work experience and add your attachment or internship. See CV for fresh graduates for a version built around projects and attachments.

Referees

Three referees is standard in Kenya. Always ask permission before listing someone. Our guide on referees on a CV covers who to pick.

One template, many jobs

A template is a starting point, not a finished CV. Employers can tell when the same CV has been sent to fifty jobs. The profile, the order of your bullets and the skills list should change for each advert.

If you would rather not rewrite it every time, KaziMatch can tailor your CV and cover letter to a specific job advert using your real experience only. Check how well you match first with a free fit check, or see what is included on our pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Is this CV template free?
Yes. You can copy the template into Word or Google Docs and use it as many times as you like.
Can I use this CV template for government jobs?
Yes. Government and county jobs often also require an application form or application letter, so attach your CV alongside whatever the advert asks for.
Should I use a two-column CV template?
It is safer not to. Two-column layouts, tables and text boxes can confuse applicant tracking systems, so a single-column template like this one is more reliable.
How many referees should my CV template include?
Three referees is the standard in Kenya, ideally former supervisors or lecturers who have agreed to be contacted.
