EACC Clearance in Kenya (2026): How to Fill the EACC Self-Declaration Form
Updated 4 November 20265 min readBy the KaziMatch careers team
EACC clearance is a check by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission that you have no integrity issues barring you from public office. Most applicants obtain it by downloading the self-declaration form from eacc.go.ke, filling it in honestly, and submitting it as the employer or EACC instructs.
Last checked: November 2026. Confirm details on the official portal before you pay.
What is EACC clearance?
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is the body that enforces Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity. When you are being considered for certain public posts, the hiring body may need EACC to confirm that you are not under investigation or have not been found to have breached ethics and integrity laws.
It is one of the five clearances usually requested for public jobs. See our Chapter Six clearance checklist.
Who needs it?
- Candidates for public appointments, especially senior and state officer positions
- Shortlisted candidates for many county, national government and parastatal jobs
- Nominees to boards and commissions
- Candidates for elective office, during the clearance period before elections
Junior posts may not always require it. Follow the advert or the shortlist notice.
How EACC clearance works
There are two common routes. The advert or shortlist notice will tell you which one applies.
- You submit a self-declaration form. You download the EACC form, fill it in and submit it to EACC or the hiring body as instructed.
- The employer requests vetting directly. The hiring body sends shortlisted candidates' details to EACC. You may only need to fill a form for the employer.
Step-by-step: the self-declaration route
- Go to eacc.go.ke.
- Find the self-declaration form (often in the downloads or resources section). Download only from the official site.
- Fill in your details clearly: full names as on your ID, ID number, contacts, the post you are applying for and the hiring body.
- Answer every integrity question honestly. These cover matters such as whether you have been dismissed from public office, charged with or convicted of offences, or investigated for corruption or economic crimes.
- Sign and date the form.
- Attach any documents requested, typically a copy of your national ID.
- Submit the form using the method stated on the EACC website or in your shortlist notice. This may be by email or at an EACC office.
- Keep a copy of the form and proof of submission.
EACC has offices in Nairobi and regional offices in several towns. Check the official site for current addresses.
How long does it take?
Timelines depend on the hiring process. Often the employer sets a deadline for submitting clearances, and EACC responds directly to the employer. Submit as soon as you receive the shortlist notice.
How much does it cost?
We are not aware of a fee for the EACC self-declaration, but procedures can change. Check the current instructions on eacc.go.ke. Never pay anyone who claims they can "fast-track" EACC clearance.
Validity
EACC clearance usually relates to a specific appointment process. If you apply for another post later, you may need to submit a new form.
Common mistakes
- Leaving questions blank. Answer every question, even with "No" or "N/A".
- Names that do not match your ID. Use your exact names.
- Wrong post or reference number. Copy them from the advert.
- Hiding information. Giving false information on a declaration can itself be an integrity breach. If you have a past case, disclose it with supporting documents showing the outcome.
- Using an old form downloaded from a third-party site. Always download the current version from EACC.
Chapter Six in brief
Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya sets the standards for leadership and integrity in public office, including honesty, accountability and avoiding conflicts of interest. The Leadership and Integrity Act builds on it. Interview panels often ask what you understand by Chapter Six, so read it before your interview. See our interview questions guide.
Next steps
Prepare your other clearances in parallel: KRA tax compliance certificate, HELB clearance, CRB clearance and certificate of good conduct. For the wider process, read how to apply for government jobs in Kenya.
